Suzy's Bio“’If what that man says is true, then I need to be different than other people.’ This thought that came from a sermon I heard at the age of four or five was one of the earliest I can remember. It was a moment in my life that marked the beginning of my lifelong relationship with God.” Born in a small town in central Ohio, Suzy grew up feeling uncommonly average. She achieved no major accomplishments, excelled at nothing in particular, and did not stand out in any way. Yet even in those early years she never gave up hope that God could somehow use her to bless others. Suzy, who was raised along with her sister by her grandmother, was always encouraged to attend church and participate in typical church activities. As she grew, so did her desire to spend time alone with God. She couldn’t wait to leave the house each morning for her mile long walk to school. This was the time she spent totally alone, talking with the One who was capturing her heart. (It was in these formative years that the seeds for a life of passionate intercession were being nurtured and cultivated.) While attending college, Suzy married her best friend and high school sweetheart, Larry Seidel. “In my early 20’s Larry and I attended a Christian conference. As we were browsing through the book stands one book in particular stood out to me. It was entitled, How to Speak So People Will Listen. I felt like I was really suppose to get this book, but was too embarrassed for Larry to see me with it. I wondered who I thought I was; believing I had anything to say that someone would even want to listen to.” Nevertheless, she purchased the book and held onto the belief that perhaps one day God would use her to encourage others. Almost 15 years later, in 1994, Suzy started meeting weekly with a small group of women in her living room. She began to pour into their lives rich deposits of the same grace she had received from the Lord throughout her life. Since that time Suzy has been a popular speaker at singles retreats, business meetings, women’s groups, taught Bible studies, ministered in small groups and conferences, led prayer groups, spoken in women’s meetings, and has even done motivational speaking in the business sector. She is ever passionate and zealous for the things of God, and has a heart for others to experience His love and to know His heart for them. Her desire to point blinded eyes to Christ especially when they are blinded by hopelessness can easily be heard through her messages of hope. To see lives renewed and restored because their vision has been transformed is the cry of her heart. Suzy and Larry live with their four children in Houston, Texas. They have been married for 27 years. These days Suzy is busy writing, scrapbooking, speaking and can often be found at a local coffee shop, sharing a cuppa and her life with a friend. |
My True North
Life-defining moments. These are the events and decisions that shape the direction and focus of our lives from that moment on. I had one of these epiphany moments several years ago while teaching a series of lessons on Becoming Like Christ. At the conclusion of one of my classes a young woman stayed behind. She didn’t know then but what she expressed to me that morning was forever going to change the way I thought about ministry. Coming near she gently said, “Suzy, I really love listening to you speak. After I leave I may not remember all the details of everything you’ve said, but I always leave wanting to be more like Jesus.” That sentiment became my True North of ministry. That defining moment in my life when I clearly saw what was most important; what had infinite, eternal value. I couldn’t get the significance of that attitude out of my head. I still can’t. Every time I speak I pray that when I leave those whom I have spent time with will simply want to be more like Jesus because of what they’ve heard from my life.
